That night I dreamed in red,
the red of blood and life seeping out
onto the cracked mosaic of everything you’d become:
It was the red of your wine,
the drink you call sophisticated
for drowning you in regrets and lost causes.
It was the red of your eyes,
bloodshot and puffy and
uncertain how you tangled up in those thorns and
indifferent to how you would stumble out.
It was the red of my heart,
which never stopped beating for you,
I used to be angry you viewed my hand
I guess you’ll come alive wherever you are,
a king, a champion, a knight,
Just know that I dream of blood
rushing back to your fingertips.
